OUR MISSION
The Helping Hands Fund was created to empower people to help themselves through education. The primary recipients of these funds are those individuals experiencing homelessness who are enrolled in programs at San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries (SAMM) or Haven for Hope, also in San Antonio, Texas.
Disbursements are most often made for academic scholarships and job training, though any expense related to the pursuit of education, vocational training, and requirements for licensing and/ or accreditation may be covered. Educational expenses which don't appear to be education-related at first glance include class fees, childcare so a parent could attend class, a cap and gown so a graduate could walk the stage, and American Sign Language (ASL) lessons for a deaf individual who only knew 'home signing'.
